Composites
For composite materials, including metal and plastic, platen presses ensure uniform bonding and molding, creating strong, lightweight components that meet the high standards of industries like aerospace, automotive, and consumer goods.
Dieffenbacher North America manufactures and refurbishes Press Plantens and Press Load/Unload Equipment using the highest quality materials and workmanship available
Dieffenbacher’s innovations in the technology sector has no limits. We have left our mark on a variety of industries.
01
Since 1873, Dieffenbacher has been an OEM press platen manufacturer. Our facilties, equipment, expert tradesmen, and mixture of German engineering and North American Production allow us to produce high-quality press platens.
02
Our facilties size and large-scale equipment allow us to manufacture and refurbish platens with the following sizing:
03
Dieffenbacher can create, refurbish, or help with any platen projects.
04
Our press platen manufacturing process includes high-precision and industry-standard testing.
Our manufacturing process allows for high quality manufacturing and refurbishing of press plants and press load/unload equipment. With high quality craftmanship and decades of experience, Dieffenbacher is the right choice for platens.

Ordering and Inspection
Raw materials are ordered from steel mills according to the specifications required. Before being shipped to our facility, the materials undergo Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to ensure material quality.
Arrival and Testing
Upon arrival, each batch of materials is sampled. The heat numbers are UT inspected and chemically tested to verify that they match the mill’s provided information.
Rough Machining
The surfaces of the platen materials must be rough machined prior to gundrilling.
Importance of Precision
This step is crucial for manufacturing heating platens. Due to the size and thickness, such materials often have long delivery times from the mill. Replacing the material is critical, so caution and precision are necessary, as mistakes are unacceptable.
Drilling Process
Platens are gundrilled to create channels inside them for the hot oil to flow through. Three drill heads are used to drill simultaneously, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Welding Process
Inserts are welded to close and connect the channels for oil flow. Welders follow specific steps to ensure even heat distribution during welding. Quality assurance is paramount to prevent leaks and ensure the welds are of high quality.
Surface Finishing
Once the channels are closed, all sides are machined to meet the required surface roughness specifications:
Coating Process
Heating platens are coated with high-heat aluminum paint. Thermal transfer products are applied to the mating surfaces of the heating platen and wear plates. Finally, lubricants are applied to the working surfaces to ensure smooth operation.
Assembly
Heating platens and wear plates are assembled with all the components required to minimize further assembly on site.
Packaging
Packaging is tailored to meet the transportation and storage conditions, depending on the destination of the platens.
Arrival and Inspection
Upon arrival, inspect and document the actual condition of the platens. Since the platens might have been exposed to harsh weather conditions, assessing how much work is required to refurbish them is essential.
Straightening and Rough Machining
As platens may no longer be perfectly flat when they arrive, we perform rough machining to ensure at least one side is leveled before proceeding to the next steps.
Welding Repair
Repair or replace attached blocks and components as needed.
Channel Flushing
Flush channels by running oil through the platen at 50 bar to remove any rust or debris inside.
Surface Machining
Machine all sides to meet the required surface roughness specifications for general heating platen surface of 1.6 Rz
Coating Process
First, we coat heating platens with high-heat aluminum paint. Then we apply lubricants to the working surfaces to ensure smooth operation.
Assembly
Assemble heating platens and wear plates with all necessary components to minimize further assembly on site.
Packaging
Tailor packaging to meet transportation and storage conditions, depending on the destination of the platens.
